THE LOST IMPRESSIONIST
Robert Deborne’s oeuvre is largely defined by his vibrant landscape paintings that depict the environs of his home town of Viviers. Alongside these scenic works are paintings from his time in Corsica, and some rare paintings of Southern French architecture.

Born during one of the most critical periods in Western art history, Robert Deborne dedicated his life to painting his home town of Viviers using a Post-Impressionist and Fauvist visual aesthetic.
Despite an extensive oeuvre and being a regular exhibitor at French Salons, Deborne’s works have been neglected by the Post-Impressionist canon. As the Nazi forced occupied France in 1942, Deborne was forced to hide his works away for safety, but passed away before retrieving them.
For 80 years his masterpieces remained hidden, until his grandson stumbled across Deborne’s hidden trove. This project seeks to shine a spotlight on Deborne and restore his deserved reputation as a crucial Post-Impressionist and Fauvist artist.
